Founder of BOSCEF
David Ben-Odafe
Ben–Odafe Sickle Cell Foundation (BOSCEF) was founded by David Ben-Odafe, a Social Entrepreneur, Author, Poet, Life Coach, and Founder/CEO of Gr8 Myndz LLC, a Business Development/ Consultancy, Marketing, and Career Training Outfit, which specializes in the training of young leaders.
He was born to the family of Mr. & Mrs. Ben Odafe, Educationists with the Delta State government in the suburban city of Ughelli, Delta State, Nigeria. He was diagnosed with SCD at a very tender age and realized he had to fight stern battles if he was going to survive his childhood.
The poverty of his body kindled a passion for knowledge and, endowed with an inquisitive mind, he began to inquire about Life, Purpose and Self.
David is an alumnus of the prestigious Government College Ughelli and The University of Lagos where he has a B.Sc. in Psychology.
At a very young age, he developed a passion for literature, a romance, which was brought about by his loneliness; resulting from his inability to join the other kids at play. Because of his frail and fragile health, he sought solace from the pages of literature. His gifts of poetry and writing were born through his passion for literature, inspired by his personal struggles.
David has a zeal for self-development and the development of the full potential of any member of the human race. He loves to walk with the “stones which the builders rejected” to transform their lives and become the chief cornerstone. Like the biblical David, he has a talent for transforming lawless men into mighty men of valor.
This passion led to his founding of Gr8Myndz, a training outfit to develop the potential of young leaders. Armed with the lessons and experiences he got from his struggles, it wasn’t long before he was sought after as a beacon of hope by everyone. His dream and life purpose are to inspire others to discover their life purpose, as well as equip, and empower them to fulfill that purpose.
In 2010, he had a myriad of sickle cell-related complications and sought help. It was then he realized the absence of support groups in the nation and most of the sickle cell foundations in this country were set up in memory of a fallen relative, due to lack of funding they became nonfunctional. He searched but couldn’t find a club set up and operated by a survivor, or by someone still living, a fighter whose story can inspire others, in other words, he never found the help he sought.
This was the crucible that kindled a burning flame in him to set up a sickle cell foundation for fellow Sicklers like himself, who had resolved to fight with any means possible, a club for us and by us, a club that really functions where they could be helped. “Touching Every Life with Hope”.
Driven by his zeal for God, the passion, dedication, and determination to ease the pains of all those affected by SCD and his personal challenge with the disorder laid the foundation for the Ben–Odafe Sickle Cell Foundation. This was the primary reason BOSCEF was born, to provide Care, Management, Welfare Support, and Adequate information on how to manage the disorder. To “Serve as a Beacon of Hope to the millions of others who have given up hope” as we all earnestly await an affordable cure that will put an end to our sufferings.
