What we do

We Assist those who have been Forgotten.

Our programs can be broadly categorized under two headings, namely Care/Support and Prevention.

How do we help?

We Care

Sadly, those affected with SCD and their families are stigmatized by a lack of understanding of SCD. Through your support, BOSCEF provides care in the following areas:

a. Counseling for its members
b. Genetic counselling for prospective couples who have the Sickle cell Trait.
c. Prenatal Diagnosis: Couples for whom there is a real possibility of bearing children with SCD, are able to find out the genotypes of their unborn child in early pregnancy. Thus, timely and adequate information, support and counselling can be provided. Sponsorship is required to sustain this program.
d. Updated seminars on the management and treatment of Sickle Cell Disorder so that Sicklers can stay away from hazardous situations that trigger Sickle cell crisis.
e. Seminars for school children on understanding sickle cell

Although Nigeria has the highest incidence of Sickle Cell Disease, the care infrastructure is not capable of keeping people alive. Many are dead before age five. Through your donations, we provide the following support:

a. Medical treatment cost
b. Medical Support for those affected by sickle cell-related complications.
c. Free drugs for members
d. Case management and psychosocial support for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disorder.
e. Educational grants and scholarships for members who are pursuing their educational goals.
f. Job skills training

We Support

We Prevent

In order to prevent the reoccurrences of new cases, it is imperative to educate the general public about the implications of having children with SCD and its toll on the individual and family. This drive led to the BOSCEF Awareness Creation program.

BOSCEF and its members engage in community outreach and program efforts throughout Nigeria. These efforts may include but are not limited to:

a. Educational campaigns that build awareness of SCD
b. Public enlightenment programs are also provided to the general public to enlighten them and encourage them to take preventive steps to ensure a decrease in the birth of new babies with Sickle Cell Disorder.
c. Awareness campaign in public schools, institutions of higher learning, and rural communities across the nation.
d. In addition BOSCEF is also tasked with creating educational materials for Nigerians. The development and promotion of these publications will aid Nigerians in understanding SCD and improving their overall health outcomes.
