Ben-Odafe Sickle Cell Foundation (BOSCEF)
"Touching Every
Life With Hope"
Our Mission
The Ben-Odafe Sickle Cell Foundation (BOSCEF) was born to provide Care,
Management, Welfare Support, Education on how to manage the disorder,
and serve as a Beacon of Hope to the millions of others who have given up hope,
as we all earnestly await an affordable cure
that will put an end to our sufferings.
What We Do
BOSCEF and its members engage in community outreach and program efforts throughout Nigeria.
These efforts may include but are not limited to:
Educational campaigns that build awareness of Sickle Cell Disease.
Public enlightenment programs are also provided to the general public to enlighten them and encourage them to take preventive steps to ensure the decrease in the birth of new babies with Sickle Cell Disease.
Awareness campaigns in public schools, institutions of higher learning and rural communities across the nation.
In addition BOSCEF is also tasked with creating educational materials for Nigerians. The development and promotion of these publications will aid Nigerians in understanding SCD and improving their overall
health outcomes.
We
Care
Persons affected with SCD are particularly vulnerable to the inadequate care infrastructure in the country.
Not only are they medically mishandled but the Social Stigma is devastating to the individual and the family.
Genetic testing and Pre-natal Diagnosis help us counsel couples on safe reproduction.
We
Support
We assist with Medical treatment and drug costs, Case Management with Medical and Psychosocial Support, and arrange Free drugs for members.
We also provide Educational Grants and Scholarships for those looking to further their education, as well as Job training skills.
We
Educate
Over 40 Million Nigerians carry the Sickle Cell gene.
There are over 150,000 Sickle Cell births annually in Nigeria.
Our Awareness campaigns, Outreach programs, and Educational materials help Enlighten the population about SCD.
In some areas, diseases are still considered to be caused by a curse. We have a lot of work to do.
We
Prevent
In order to Prevent the reoccurrences of new cases, it is imperative to educate
the general public about the implications of having children with SCD and its
toll on the family.
We do this through outreach programs in the school system as well as in rural community visits throughout Nigeria.
